It is a leading producer of high grade zircon, rutile, garnet and ilmenite concentrates through its South African world-class Mineral Sands Operation at Tormin. It’s recent acquisition of the Munglinup high-grade, world-class Graphite Project is consistent with its strategy to capitalise on the fast growing sustainable renewable energy storage and electric vehicle revolution.
In 2016 Mineral Commodities Tormin operation mined approximately 1.8 million tonnes at a grade of 45.97% Heavy Mineral Concentrate (HMC). This result was achieved in partnership with the Company’s excellent safety record, which has surpassed 1.4 million lost time injury (LTI) free days since operations commenced in 2014.
In addition to the operational records, the Company has continued to invest in personal development programmes focused on education, training and gainful employment. This year the programmes have included multiple internships in the Perth Corporate office, where employees received additional mentoring as well as specific training in management reporting and accounting.
The completion of the upgrade on the local Koekenaap School / Community Resource Centre, which includes a new library and computer classroom, was achieved during the second half of 2015 and was officially opened in January 2016. In addition to its Social Labour Plan (SLP) commitments at Tormin, the Company also continues to provide support to the Xolobeni community through the building of nurseries and supporting cattle and poultry programmes which will result in sustainable provision of basic food needs.
